The short version
Microsoft updated the AB-100 skills outline on 14 October 2026. We compared it line by line with the previous version. No topic was added or removed, and the weights didn't move. Four items were renamed to match Microsoft's current product names. If you've been preparing, your preparation still counts.
When Microsoft updates an exam outline, its change log just says which areas changed and whether the change was "minor" or "major". For AB-100 (Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect), the log lists three areas, all marked minor. That doesn't tell you whether you need to relearn anything, so we checked every line.
Exactly what changed
| Where | Before | Now |
|---|---|---|
| Plan › Design overall AI strategy | Define the solution rules and constraints when building AI components with Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry and Foundry Tools | …Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry and Microsoft Foundry Tools |
| Design › Design AI and agents | Propose Foundry Tools for a given requirement | Propose Microsoft Foundry Tools for a given requirement |
| Design › Design AI and agents | Determine when to use standard natural language processing, Azure conversational language understanding, or generative AI orchestration in Copilot Studio | …standard natural language processing, conversational language understanding, or generative AI orchestration in Copilot Studio |
| Deploy › Design the ALM process | Design the ALM process for Microsoft Foundry agents | Design the ALM process for Microsoft Foundry Agents Service |
| Audience profile | …advocating for the Microsoft responsible AI guidelines | …advocating for the Microsoft Responsible AI Standard |
Every section has the same number of items as before. Nothing was added, nothing was removed, and nothing moved between sections.
What stayed the same
- Plan AI-powered business solutions: 25–30%
- Design AI-powered business solutions: 25–30%
- Deploy AI-powered business solutions: 40–45%, still the biggest part of the exam
- Pass mark: 700, on Microsoft's scaled score. It isn't a percentage.
What to do about it
Learn the current names. The exam uses the names in the current outline, so expect "Microsoft Foundry Tools" and "Microsoft Foundry Agents Service", not the older wording. If your notes or a course use the old names, the underlying topics are the same.
Spend your time where the marks are. Deploying (monitoring and tuning agents, testing, application lifecycle management, and security and governance) is 40–45% of the exam. That hasn't changed, and it's where most candidates are weakest, because it's the part you only learn by running a real deployment.

Why AB-100 matters more than it did a year ago
On 30 June 2026 Microsoft retired four certifications and named AB-100 as their replacement: MB-335 (Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management Functional Consultant Expert), MB-700 (Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations Apps Solution Architect Expert), PL-500 (Power Automate RPA Developer Associate) and PL-600 (Power Platform Solution Architect Expert). If you work in Dynamics 365 or Power Platform architecture, AB-100 is now the certification Microsoft points you to.
How we checked
We compared the current AB-100 study guide with the version in force before the update (last revised 6 January 2026), item by item. The retirements come from Microsoft's June 2026 Partner Center announcements.
